YouTube is a great video-sharing platform that allows you to upload videos and share them with people all over the world. But, what happens when your quality just isn’t up to par? If not checked correctly, this can downgrade your video as well as make it hard for viewers to enjoy. Luckily, there are some ways that you can keep the quality of your videos high while uploading them to YouTube! In this blog post, we will go over 8 tips on how to do so.
What is the resolution of a video file and why does it matter?
A video’s resolution is often represented as a number. For example, 720p or 1080p. The higher the numbers, the better your quality will be while watching it on YouTube. This means that if you upload an HD file with a low resolution (e.g., 360), then viewers won’t enjoy watching it on full screen because of how blurry it would appear.
So what can we do to fix this? Simply make sure to check your files’ resolutions! You don’t want to give people pixelated videos when there are much clearer ones available for them online and at their fingertips!
Here are some other tips:
- Make sure all content, such as text and sound effects are synced up properly so that everything flows smoothly * Check YouTube’s guidelines to make sure that your video is eligible for upload.
- Keep it short and sweet so that the viewers won’t get bored of watching it * Make sure you’re uploading only one video at a time! You can always go back and edit videos in bulk, but this just wastes resources on both ends as well as makes things confusing.
- Keep your videos at the highest quality possible while uploading them to YouTube with these simple tricks.
Why is YouTube’s default setting not always the best option?
YouTube has the “480p” option as their default video quality setting. While this is a good starting point, it doesn’t always represent what your videos will look like once uploaded to YouTube and shared with others!
Instead of relying on defaults that might not be best for you, create custom encoding settings before uploading any content so that viewers can enjoy watching them on full screen without pixelated images or blurry text!
It’s worth taking the time to do because at the end of the day- people are more likely to watch something they know is high quality than one that isn’t.
Example: If I’m uploading a video from my phone (which records in 720p), then there should be an option called “720p.” This means that viewers will be able to watch the video without any pixelation or blurriness, and because of this- they’ll have a higher chance of watching it on the full screen instead of scrolling past.
Change your settings to make sure you have the best quality possible
YouTube has a lot of different setting options for you to choose from. While some are more specific than others, we must change the default ones during upload so that viewers know they’re going to be getting high-quality video content when they watch whatever it is on their screen!
But what does this look like? Let’s take a closer look: We’ll go into “Video Settings” and select “Encoding.” This will show us all sorts of settings related to resolutions and types of videos we can use.
We want our resolution at 1080p – and then if your output isn’t automatically set as MPEG-four AVC/H264 (it should have a green check next to its title), click on it. This is what will ensure that your content is uploaded with the highest possible quality!
Now you’re all set to go and upload some high-quality videos to YouTube without any worries or concerns about how they’ll look when shared on the platform.
Choose a higher bitrate for better sound and image quality
When uploading a video to YouTube, you have the option of choosing a higher bitrate. This will ensure that your sound and image quality is better than their defaults- which in turn ensures that viewers can fully enjoy what it is they’re watching! What does this look like? Let’s take a closer look:
We’ll go into “Video Settings” and select “Encoding.” Once we do so, we should be able to see all sorts of settings related to resolutions and types of videos we can use.
We want our resolution at 1080p – as well as changing the output type from MPEG-four AVC/H264 (which has a green check next to its title) to MPEG-two MP@HL or HAP Q (which has a yellow check next to its title).
This is what will ensure that your content is uploaded with the highest possible quality! It’s worth taking the time to do because at the end of the day- people are more likely to watch something they know is high quality than one that isn’t.
If you want your videos to look their best on all screens, make sure that you adjust your settings to the following:
- Resolution- 1080p or higher (1080, 1440)
- Type of video – MPEG-four AVC/H264 or HAP Q with a yellow check next to its title
- Audio Encoding Type – AAC LC at 256kbps for stereo sound. If it’s mono content, use 128kbps instead.
Save these changes! Now we’re all set to go and upload some high-quality videos without any worries!
Avoid zooming in on your footage when filming as this will reduce its quality significantly
When filming, make sure to avoid zooming in on your footage as this will reduce its quality significantly. When zoomed close-up, images are usually pixelated and blurry looking which is something that viewers don’t want! What does this look like? Let’s take a closer look:
If you’re using a camera with digital image stabilization (which is what we recommend), then there should be an option called “Digital Image Stabilization.” If not – try going into the settings menu and adjusting it from “Off” or “Standard” to either of these two options instead.
This way when videos are uploaded onto YouTube they’ll stay clear without any blurring during playback- making them more enjoyable for everyone!
Example: If I’m recording a video of people talking, then there should be an option called “Digital Image Stabilization.” If not, then try going into the settings menu and adjusting it from “Off” or “Standard” to either of these two options instead.

Turn off any filters or effects during filming
Filters and effects are a lot of fun, but they can also downgrade the quality of your video! Instead, make sure to turn these off during filming. This is because filters often blur or pixelate images which will result in reduced clarity for viewers. It may be tempting to add some cool effects while you’re recording- but it’s not worth it as this will only take away from the overall quality of your content
Don’t forget about audio!
Sometimes it’s easy to forget about audio when uploading videos- but this is a big mistake! Audio will make or break your video, so be sure that you’re recording high-quality sound.
This means investing in good microphones and speakers if possible as well as avoiding anything like wind noise while filming. You can also try turning off any distortion filters on the camera (if there are any) and making sure to use headphones during footage editing for added clarity.
