Why You Can’t Transfer Offline Downloads to Your Gallery

Videos downloaded through YouTube’s official offline feature are stored in an encrypted format inside the YouTube app itself, tied to your account and licensing terms — not as a regular playable video file. This is intentional: it protects the rights of the video’s creator and copyright holder, and it’s why you won’t find these downloads in your phone’s Files app, Photos, or gallery no matter how you search.

How to Actually Watch Downloaded Videos Offline

1. Open the YouTube app (this only works in the official app, not the mobile website).
2. Tap your profile icon, then Downloads.
3. Your offline videos are listed there and play without an internet connection, inside the app.

If You Need the Actual Video File

If you have rights to a video (it’s your own upload, or you have explicit permission from the creator), the correct way to get a real, transferable file is to download it directly from YouTube Studio if it’s your own content, or ask the creator to share the original file with you.
