Good news up front: deleting a YouTube channel and deleting your Google Account are already two entirely separate actions. There’s no trick required to keep your Gmail — you just need to choose the right option and not confuse the two.
Hide vs. Delete — Decide First
YouTube offers two options, and the difference matters because one is reversible and one isn’t.
- Hide your channel — your videos, comments, playlists and subscriptions become invisible to others, but nothing is destroyed. You can restore the channel later.
- Permanently delete — videos, comments, playlists, and channel data are removed for good. This cannot be undone.
If you’re unsure, hide it. You can always delete later; you can’t undelete.
How to Delete Just Your Channel
- Go to YouTube Studio.
- Click Settings > Channel > Advanced settings.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Remove YouTube Content.
- Sign in again when prompted — this is a security confirmation, not an error.
- Choose I want to hide my content or I want to permanently delete my content.
- Confirm by ticking the required boxes and clicking the final button.
This removes your YouTube presence only. Gmail, Google Drive, Google Photos, and every other Google service on the same account are untouched.
What Actually Deletes Your Gmail
Gmail only goes away if you separately visit your Google Account > Data & privacy > Delete your Google Account and complete that flow. Deleting a YouTube channel never triggers it, and YouTube’s deletion screens never offer it as an option.
If Your Channel Is a Brand Account
Many channels run on a YouTube Brand Account rather than directly on a personal Google Account. If yours does, the separation is even cleaner — a Brand Account isn’t your login account at all, it’s managed by one or more Google Accounts. Deleting it has no bearing on your personal Gmail whatsoever.

Back Up First
Before deleting anything, use Google Takeout to download your videos, comments, playlists, and watch history. Once permanent deletion completes, YouTube cannot recover it for you — support has no restore option regardless of how soon you ask.
What Happens to Your Content
Videos disappear from search and your channel immediately, though it can take time for all copies to clear from caches. Your comments on other people’s videos are removed too. Your subscriber count is gone permanently — restoring a hidden channel doesn’t bring back subscribers who left in the meantime.
